Resources:
My favorite resource I use is the Think Dirty app. It's free to download and has thousands of products graded from 1-10, 1 being the absolute best option and 10 being the worst. The app is free to download and my go to when I'm out shopping and didn't do my research before hand. If you find a product you're thinking about trying simply scan the barcode and the app does the rest for you. I can't tell you how many times I put a product back on the shelf after scanning it in the app.
The second resource I use is Just.Ingredients Instagram page. I stumbled upon Karalynne's page months ago and have been obsessed ever since. This is my go to when I'm about to place my Walmart Grocery order or Target order. What I love is she will show you the product that is the worst option, okay options, and the best choice. Most products she shares you can grab at your everyday stores or on Amazon.
Where I started:
I started with the simple areas, with products I didn't have an attachment to (ie: NOT my makeup LOL) The very first product I switched out in our home was our laundry detergent. After scanning Grace's baby detergent in the Think Dirty app I almost fainted. I was washing her clothes with probably the worst product out there, the list of bad ingredients was horrify and it angered me this company sold a product like this exclusively for your child. I then switched out our dish detergent for the dishwasher and dish soap. These were the simplest for me to switch out, and was a great starting point that wasn't overwhelming.
Products I Switched To:
Seventh Generation Detergent: We switched to this exact detergent about five months ago and I'm so happy we did. I was originally using Deft detergent for Grace's clothes, but after doing my research and realizing all the harsh chemicals that were in it I immediately switched.
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter: This is my favorite moisturizer, especially during the Winter months. I switched after I saw a post from Just.Ingredients.
Liquid Vitamin D Drops: I never thought to change out the vitamins I was taking, but apparently some are a lot better than others. If you're Vitamin D deficient like me then grab these. They have no taste at all, I put them right in my water.
Wool Dryer Balls: I have known for a while that dryer sheets have horrible chemicals in them. They actually always irritated my skin so I actually haven't used them for years. The downside to that was the crazy static after the dryer finished. I purchased these on Amazon and no more static! You can put some drops of essential oil to add some fragrance too.
I made the switch to safer products after my second failed transfer.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely yielded better results and I feel so much better knowing I'm using safer products for me and my boys :) Thanks for sharing your product choices!
Yes! One of the main reasons why I started switching over to better products was because of our fertility journey. Thanks for reading the post!
